Atlanta-based Americold Logistics LLC has signed an agreement to manage some of restaurant franchiser Yum Brands Inc. warehousing and trucking centers in China.
Americold, which provides cold-storage facilities and transportation for the food and beverage industry, works in the world’s most populous country through a joint venture with Hong Kong-based logistics conglomerate China Merchants Holdings International.
The first projects China Merchants Americold will take on under the deal are the management of Yum’s logistics centers in Beijing and Harbin. The company will also operate other warehousing and trucking facilities Yum opens in China in the future.
In a news release, Americold officials described the agreement as a long-term partnership but did not disclose financial details.
Louisville, Ky.-based Yum Brands controls the Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell chains, managing more than 38,000 restaurants in 110 countries and territories.
Its Shanghai-based subsidiary Yum China operates more than 4,000 restaurants throughout the country, including more than 3,400 KFC and 550 Pizza Hut locations.
The company has more than 5,200 KFC and 6,000 Pizza Hut restaurants in the U.S.
Americold currently operates 182 warehouses in six countries, employing about 12,000 people, including 950 in its Atlanta headquarters.
