Lilia Postolachi, World Trade Center Atlanta’s membership and international services director, discusses trade conference in Qatar.

The World Trade Center Atlanta is recruiting local companies to attend a May trade conference in the Persian Gulf country of Qatar.

The Futurallia Conference will be held May 10-12. It will feature a half-day seminar on how to do business in the Persian Gulf followed by face-to-face meetings with up to a dozen business prospects.

The conference, aimed at small-to medium-sized companies, provides a business matchmaking service, said Lilia Postolachi, World Trade Center Atlanta’s membership and international services director.

Before the conference, companies are asked to enter information about their businesses into a database. The software matches them with other companies throughout the world which might be interested in their products or services. It then schedules personal meetings.

The conference registration fee of 1,350 Euros per person (about $1,700) includes food, hotel, translation services and a year’s access to the conference database.

“For the next year, you can continue communication, developing business relationships with different companies,” said Ms. Postolachi.

The Futurallia conference, first held in Poitiers, France in 1990, is expected to attract more than 800 companies from throughout the world.

World Trade Center Atlanta, a membership group which promotes international trade and investment, has arranged roundtrip airfare from Atlanta to Doha, Qatar, for $2,053 per person through Georgia International Travel.

Qatar, with its oil and natural gas deposits, has one of the world’s highest per capita incomes and fastest growing economies, according to the “CIA  Fact Book.”

Deadline for conference registration is April 1. For more information call Ms. Postolachi at (404) 813-6672 or e-mail her here .
