Atlanta-based Mather Economics, one of the top consultancy for media outlets and other organizations generating recurring revenue from subscriptions, is opening an office in Belgium Oct. 1.

The new European foothold is part of the company’s strategy to expand its offerings on the continent.

The move comes less than a year after Mediahuis, a Belgian group that owns newspapers and online media platforms throughout Europe, acquired a majority stake in Mather. Mediahuis’s venture arm took a 35 percent stake in the 20-year-old firm in 2019, noting that the process of acquiring and managing customer data was growing increasingly vital for subscription-driven businesses. Mediahuis upped its ownership stake in Mather to 70 percent last January.

Liesbeth Nizet, former Change Director B2C of Mediahuis group, is set to become the new Managing Director of Mather’s European division.

The office will be located in the port city of Antwerp, where Mediahuis is headquartered.

“On behalf of the Mather Economics team, I’m excited to welcome Liesbeth Nizet to our company,” said Matt Lindsay, president of Mather Economics, in a news release. “Mather has experienced significant growth in Europe in recent years. Our strategic partnership with Mediahuis has enabled us to improve our service to European clients in the publishing industry, and in other verticals that are growing their subscription revenue models.”

Launched in 2002, Mather has about 600 clients serving 30 million households with combined annual revenues of $4 billion.
