Leigh Miller for GlobalAtlanta
The CEO of Liushi, China-based General Protecht Group Inc. told a Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce delegation visiting China last week that it will invest in a $30 million manufacturing facility in metro Atlanta.

The CEO, Wusheng Chen, announced the investment to some 30 Atlanta officials during a dinner cruise on the Huangpu River, which was part of the delegation’s week-long trade mission to China, according to a Metro Atlanta Chamber newsletter.

The General Protecht Group plant will manufacture ground fault circuit interrupters, or residual current devices, which are safety devices used in electrical installations that disconnect circuits to prevent electrical shock. The new facility is expected to create some 300 jobs.

An exact location for the plant in metro Atlanta has not yet been revealed, according to Tim Tingkang Xia, partner in Morris, Manning & Martin LLP’s international technology and intellectual property practice, who is Mr. Chen’s lawyer in Atlanta.

Mr. Chen is to come to Atlanta in late October or early November to solidify the deal, Dr. Xia told GlobalAtlanta.

When visiting Atlanta in April, Mr. Chen told an audience at a Metro Atlanta chamber reception that he hoped his company would become a supplier of electrical products to Home Depot Inc. and other companies here.

Dr. Xia, who hosted Mr. Chen here, said that Morris, Manning & Martin’s Shanghai office arranged for Mayor Shirley Franklin to meet with the mayor of Shanghai, Han Zheng, last week.

Ms. Franklin and her Atlanta delegation returned from China on Sept. 13 after visiting Beijing, Wuhan, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

The group met with government officials and private companies in China to promote Atlanta as an investment location, promote the creation of a Chinese consulate here and lobby for Delta Air Lines Inc. to get a direct flight between Atlanta and China.
