Clayton State University has named a new director of international programs, tapping an educator with prior experience at the university and a long history of attracting federal funding for overseas study.

Rajgopal (Raj) Sashti returns to Clayton State from a position at Southern Polytechnic State University, where he was head of international program development within the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs. 

During his previous stint at Clayton from 2004-08, Dr. Sashti attracted more than $5 million federal grants such as the Fulbright Hays, which supports faculty development of international programs, and the Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence grant. 

Dr. Sashti also signed faculty and student exchange agreements with universities in Latin America and Asia and helped more than 50 faculty from Clayton State and other schools gain experience in Argentina, Chile, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Hungary and the Czech Republic

He personally has received three Fulbright grants to Germany, Japan and Brazil
