Atlanta-based Crawford & Co., which helps insurers manage claims, has named a new head of its division servicing large, complex claims internationally. 

Andries Willemse will become senior vice president with leadership over Crawford’s Global Technical Services arm starting Jan. 1. 

Crawford has been heavily involved in managing claims emerging from natural disasters like the Japan earthquake and tsunami of March 2011. The company has 500 adjusters operating in 144 locations serving clients in more than 70 countries. 

Dr. Willemse started with the company in South Africa in 1998 as a senior adjuster before being appointed as the country manager for South Africa in 2004, with responsibility for sub-Saharan Africa, including SeychellesMauritiusMadagascar and Réunion. He moved to the United Kingdom in 2007 and to Atlanta in 2008.

Dr. Willemse master’s and doctorate degrees in business administration.
