Just days after announcing its new airline service from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to Seoul, Delta Air Lines Inc. launched yet another addition to its international flight options on June 16 with a new flight from Seattle to Hong Kong.
The new service comes among a wave of flight additions in the past year connecting the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to major Asian cities and drawing attention to Seattle as a developing hub for Asian markets.
Delta already connects Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo and Seoul to Seattle. With the addition of Hong Kong, the carrier now offers services to five leading commercial destinations of Asia.
“Seattle is the perfect market for us to launch service to Asia,” said Anthony Black, a Delta spokesman. “If someone is going to Asia they would pass right through.”
The flight to Hong Kong marks the fifth new international destination from Seattle in the last year and ninth long-haul, international flight from Seattle in total.
“The Seattle market is geographically positioned to optimally connect traffic to all of our Asia destinations, which are the leading commercial centers in the region.” said Mike Medeiros, Delta’s vice president-Seattle. “With the addition of the Hong Kong flight, Delta now offers our customers more than 2,500 daily seats to the top business markets in Asia and Europe from our Seattle hub.”
