Romania‘s flag carrier has joined the SkyTeam global airline alliance, providing new options for Delta Air Lines Inc. customers traveling to the Eastern European nation.

TAROM‘s entry provides access to 11 cities not offered by current SkyTeam members, including key cities in Romania as well as Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. Delta customers also can now earn frequent-flyer miles on TAROM flights.

“Improving our customers’ access to important commercial regions in Europe continues to be a key focus for SkyTeam,” said Delta CEO Richard Anderson in a news release.

Delta is the largest member of the alliance, which includes Air France, Royal Dutch KLM and 11 other airlines.

SkyTeam members Czech Airlines and Aeroflot already provide a wide array of travel options for Delta customers throughout Central and Eastern Europe, Mr. Anderson said.

Before TAROM, the newest member of the alliance was Vietnam Airlines, which joined June 10.
