Alabama’s commercial connections with the United Kingdom span from aerospace to automotive and forestry to fintech, with dynamic startups joining nearly 100 well-established subsidiaries in making their mark on a growing relationship that supports 12,400 jobs within the state.

With trade approaching $1.5 billion, new links are being forged from Farnborough to Huntsville, London to Montgomery, and Birmingham to Birmingham, in sectors like defense, government and tourism, supporting the U.S.-U.K. Special Relationship at the sub-national level as America’s economic and political center of gravity shifts South.

The U.K. engages the region through the British Consulate General in Atlanta, which covers five states including Alabama and prioritizes economic engagement while also spearheading political outreach and consular affairs.

Join Birmingham Business AllianceKennesaw State UniversityBurr + Forman, the consulate and Global Atlanta for a luncheon discussion with His Majesty’s Consul General Rachel Galloway, designed to update and inform local stakeholders on pressing transatlantic issues while showing how diplomacy can open doors for cross-border commerce.

In conversation with Grounded Global Media Publisher Trevor Williams, Ms. Galloway will touch on…

  • U.S. 250: British views on the importance of Alabama and the South to its long-term engagements with the United States
  • Transatlantic turbulence: Status of UK-US Trade and Tech Prosperity deals — and implications of tariffs for Alabama
  • Critical minerals, automotive, aerospace and energy: How defense and other strategic sectors will define the future
  • NATO, Ukraine and Iran: The UK’s view on geopolitical challenges facing the alliance
  • Sports diplomacy: How football (soccer) can open doors during a World Cup year in the U.S., and what the U.K. can learn from SEC football
  • Cultural connections: World Games legacies, sister relationships between Birmingham and Wales and Liverpool, the Wedgwood collection at Birmingham Museum of Art, Northern Irish heritage links and more.
