April 3, 2017 at 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Christa Clarke, curator of the arts of global Africa at the Newark Museum, considers the complex issues surrounding the representation of contemporary African art in museums. Since the start of the 21st century, Newark, like many museums, has placedĀ  increasing emphasis on the modern and contemporary arts of Africa, expanding on an historic collection begun a century ago. In a lecture titled Curating Contemporary African Art, Clarke addresses the development of the collection at Newark, discussing the curatorial strategies behind collecting and display.
