From Polar Bears to Peaches: 50th Anniversary of Earth Day

May 5, 2020 at 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm

The North Pole has ice all year round as it stands, but as global temperatures rise, ice levels could dissipate in the summer months. Increased melting of ice sheets and losses of seasonal sea ice are both commonly reported consequences of climate change that can impact polar marine ecosystems globally.
What about Georgia? We’ve had hurricanes, tornadoes, and ice storms just these past two years. How does the loss of polar ice affect both rural and urban communities in our state?
Join for a conversation with Dr. Patricia Yager who is a Professor of Marine Science at the University of Georgia. Her interdisciplinary research combines oceanography, marine ecology, and biogeochemistry, and concentrates on the interactions between climate and marine ecosystems.
This program is presented by the Council Members Forum Steering Committee and the Young Leaders Executive Board
As a courtesy to the community, this Members Forum program is OPEN TO ALL.
