Russia Meets China in Atlanta With Moscow Ballet’s ‘Great American Nutcracker’

Moscow Ballet and Atlanta Professional Dance Academy are partnering to bring together three great ballet cultures Russian, Chinese and American — in two performances of the Great Russian Nutcracker.

Atlanta Ballet star and former Principal Artist of the National Ballet of China, Dongsheng Wei, is partnering with world-renowned Moscow Ballet via its “Dance-with-Us ” community engagement program. Moscow Ballet’s Mykhailo Shcherbakov came to Atlanta to work closely with Wei and the schools’ ballet students auditioning and rehearsing them in various roles including Party Children, Small Mice, Snowflakes, Russian Snow Maidens and more. The “Dance-with-Us” program has brought over 100,000 aspiring ballerinas and ballerinos on stage with the professionals over the past 27 years.

Wei Dongsheng started his ballet career in 1979 with the Beijing Dance Academy in China soon becoming a Principal Dancer with the National Ballet of China where he received many awards and later was an award-winning Principal Dancer for Atlanta Ballet.
