School Interpreter Workshops

$180The CEU-approved and non-language specific School Interpreter Workshops are designed for bilingual individuals with little or no experience in the educational field or the field of interpretation. They will walk you through the basic steps of becoming an educational interpreter and provide you with the Standards of Practice and basic terminology required to be an effective and accurate interpreter in a school setting. Upon completion of the 16-hour series, qualified participants will receive a Glossary of Frequently Used Educational Terms, as well as referrals to interpreter agencies and school districts seeking qualified and trained interpreters.
DAY ONE:
Foundations of Interpretation in the Educational Setting
(Overview of Standards of Practice for school interpreters, consecutive, simultaneous and sight translation practice, overview of Parent-Teacher Conferences and SST interpretation, vocabulary-building activities and case study analysis)
DAY TWO:
Special Education Terminology for School Interpreters
(Advanced workshop covering common disabilities, RTI, evaluation procedures, speech and psychoeducational evaluations, eligibility, IEP and Reevaluation terminology, vocabulary-building activities and case study analysis)
Disciplinary Hearing and Panel Procedures for School Interpreters
(Advanced workshop covering disciplinary hearing terminology, Student Code Rules and Infractions, behavior intervention terminology, simultaneous interpretation skill development, proper use of interpretation equipment)
