Join Emory and Duke universities for a series of screenings of the 2024 award-winning film Dahomey! From acclaimed filmmaker Mati DiopDahomey is a poetic and immersive work of art that delves into real perspectives on far-reaching issues surrounding appropriation, self-determination and restitution. Winner of the Golden Bear prize at the 2024 Berlinale.

Followed by talk back with undergraduate students from Emory and the Atlanta University Center Consortium at 8pm hosted by Mati Diop. Discussion with the audience afterwards.

About Mati Diop: Living between Paris and Dakar, Mati Diop’s first feature, Atlantics, (2019) was selected in the official Competition at the Festival de Cannes, where it was awarded the Grand Prix. The film was later shortlisted as one of the 10 best international films at the Oscars. She has also directed several short-films and medium-length films: Atlantics (2009), Snow Canon (2011), Big in Vietnam (2012), A Thousand Suns (2013), and In My Room (2020), which were also nominated and awarded in many international festivals. In 2016, Mati Diop received the Lincoln Center of New York’s Martin E. Segal – Emerging Artist Award.
