June 6, 2022 at 10:00 am - July 15, 2022 at 5:00 pm

Are you a high school or college student whose study abroad plans have been canceled, or are you itching to do something fun in person? This program is for you! Alif is hosting an intensive, in-person domestic program that will allow you to study Arabic and immerse yourself in the culture.

This six-week program will give you a domestic-led study abroad experience in your backyard:

    • You will learn Integrated Levantine Arabic inspired by the Arabic as One Language Cornell University integrated Arabic model in tandem with Alif’s critical intercultural communication curriculum.
    • You will practice speaking Arabic online with refugees via Natakallam as well as Atlanta’s native Arabic-speaking community; participate in Alif’s community-based experiential learning in Atlanta’s Arab-American community; engage in hands-on culinary, calligraphy, and dance workshops.
    • You will take a trip to Detroit, the de facto Arab-American capital in the US in partnership with the Arabic American National Museum. The educational trip to Dearborn (Detroit) may include: a #YallahEat culinary tour, meeting Arab-Americans from all dialect groups, visiting historic sites and museums in Detroit, taking a stroll around Arab-American iconic venues in Dearborn, and a presentation by the National Arab Orchestra.
    • Upon completing the course, beginning students will demonstrate their linguistic proficiency at the novice/intermediate level by completing a standardized test by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI).
    • Students will demonstrate critical cultural awareness measured by quantitative and qualitative means.
