The Atlanta Opera presents ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’

March 8 at 8:00 pm 11:00 pm

2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway
Atlanta, Georgia 30339

Lovers, Lunatics, and Magic! Mismatched lovers, magic gone askew, immortals toying with the lives of the mortals, and the pompous asses are not always who you think they are. A Midsummer Night’s Dream, an opera by Benjamin Britten, invites you in for a fantastical comedy of a glam-rock ethereal fairy world intersecting with the locals while the hilarious rustics bumble through a play-within-a-play at their Duke’s wedding. The ultimate blitz of musical joy!

21st-century technology wraps around the simplicity of Shakespeare’s Globe Theater to stage a world hovering between fantasy and reality. This brand-new production will light up your imagination.

THE ATLANTA OPERA’s production of  Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream features the company debut of Grammy-winning countertenor Iestyn Davies as Oberon, King of the Fairies. Sir Davies is also honored with a Critics Circle Award and an MBE for services to music in the Queen’s New Years Honours List 2017. His counterpart, Tytania, Queen of the Fairies, will be sung by soprano Liv Redpath who is described as “radiant” and “breathtaking.” A trio of Atlanta Opera favorites are also featured: mezzo-soprano Megan Marino and bass Kevin Burdette, both of whom performed as members of The Atlanta Opera’s Company Players at the height of the pandemic, perform the roles of Puck and Bottom, respectively, and soprano Susanne Burgess, most recently seen as Mabel in Pirates of Penzance, sings Helena. Tomer Zvulun directs, and rising young conductor Louis Lohraseb will be on the podium.
