The World and the City in the 21st Century – International Center Global Presentation Series at Georgia State University
March 22, 2017 at 12:00 am - 1:00 pm

The World and the City in the 21st Century
Presented by Dr. Jan Nijman
Director, Urban Studies Institute
Andrew Young School of Policy Studies
Georgia State University
Global and urban research once were positioned at opposite ends of a scalar spectrum but now they are increasingly entwined. Major urban regions form the building blocks of a global economy (and culture) that is ever more integrated. Understanding cities requires an understanding of global processes, and vice versa. Dr. Nijman will reflects on his international research experience in Amsterdam, Miami, Mumbai and Hong Kong, and discusses where Atlanta fits in the work at the new Institute.
Interviewed by Dr. Mary Beth Walker
Dean, Andrew Young School of Policy Studies
