Thomas J. Cunningham, a 30-year-veteran of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, has joined the leadership team of the Metro Atlanta Chamber as its chief economist.

Hala Moddelmog, president and CEO of the chamber, said in a press release on July 13 that Dr. Cunningham, who earned his doctorate in economics from Columbia University, is to fill a newly created position at the chamber to advance economic growth in the region.

According to the release, he is to focus on designing policies and making recommendations for solving economic problems that the chamber and other regional entities can address together.

While at the Fed, Dr. Cunningham played an important role in studying regional economic trends through its Center for Real Estate Analytics, which he helped launch. During the mid-1990s, he also was responsible for analyzing the impact of the 1996 Olympic Games on the region.
