Rev. Dr. Margot Kässmann, the former head of the Protestant church in Germany, is spending fall semester at Emory University‘s Candler School of Theology.
In 1999, she was elected the first female bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover, the largest Lutheran church in the world. In 2009, she was elected chair of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany, the governing body of the country’s 24 million Protestants.
At Candler, Dr. Kässmann will preach, deliver lectures and participate in panel discussions on topics as women’s leadership in the church.
