Leuze moved from Michigan to Gwinnett.

A German provider of optical sensor technology is investing $1.2 million to move its U.S. headquarters from Michigan to Gwinnett County.

Leuze electronic Inc. plans to hire 17 people at its facility on Northmont Parkway in unincorporated Duluth, where a grand opening celebration was held March 13.

Focused on industrial automation, Leuze sensors are used for switching, measuring, data transmission, image processing and other tasks.

A ribbon-cutting was held March 13.

Announcing the move in November, said the move positions it better for growth in North America, consolidating production, sales and training in one place and allow the firm to take advantage of Gwinnett and metro Atlanta’s strong business environment.

“Local production brings us closer to our customers and will allow us to supply them with products faster and more efficiently,” Leuze USA President Aaron Henry said in a release at the time.

Mr. Henry sees the move as just the first step of many.

“We want to grow outside of this building. We want to get bigger than what you see in these walls — and with more people,” he said at the grand opening event alongside officials from Partnership Gwinnett.
