Gov. Sonny Perdue named Sam A. Way, chairman of the board of MidState Banks Inc., to the state’s Board of Economic Development.
Mr. Way, 80, a native of Hawkinsville, is a former board of trustees member of Mercer University and Georgia Baptist Hospital and former board member of Baptist World Alliance and the University of Georgia Foundation.
He served as chairman of the steering committee to develop a Hawkinsville branch of Middle Georgia Technical College and is a former member of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. He also served in the United States Coast Guard in World War II.
Mr. Way attended Emory University at Oxford College and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Dorothy, have four children and seven grandchildren.
