The Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce on Friday, Aug 21, is to embark on a 12-day journey through China and Korea during which four international companies are expected to announce major operations in metro Atlanta.
The trade mission, which lasts through Sept. 1, will reach the Chinese cities of Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Fuzhou, Nanjing, Wuxi, Taizhou, Shanghai, Ningbo, after which the delegation will visit Gangnam-gu in Seoul.
The mission is part of a statewide push to generate Asian investments in the greater Atlanta area. Recently, the Georgia Department of Economic Development hired the Chinese deal-making expert John Ling, who was praised in his former role in South Carolina for successfully drawing in lucrative manufacturing business from China.
In Hong Kong, Shanghai and Ningbo, the group will join representatives with Georgia Department of Economic Development who have planned later this month a similar trade initiative in East Asia.
Gwinnett County is home to more than 600 international companies and one of the leading portals for Chinese companies into Georgia.
Nick Masino, senior vice president economic development at the Gwinnett Chamber, called Georgia the “fastest growing business base” of the Southeast. The upcoming trip abroad marks his eleventh visit to South Korea, and twelfth to China.
“It will once again communicate to everyone that Gwinnett is the international hub for business in Georgia,” Mr. Masino told Global Atlanta about the trade mission.
Along with Mr. Masino and his colleague Andrew Carnes, director of economic development, the Gwinnett County-led delegation includes Jace Brooks with the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners and Mayor Bucky Johnson of Norcross.
