Innova Business Solutions Inc. and Willis Mechanical Inc. were honored by the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce last week at the 16th Annual Awards Gala held downtown at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta.

Innova, a local information technology consulting and software development company that started in Caracus, Venezuela, and expanded to Atlanta in 2003, was named entrepreneur of the year. The company is part of the Hispanic American Center for Economic Development incubator program that was launched by the chamber in 2003 to assist Hispanic start-up companies.

Willis Mechanical, a local service company involved in complex mechanical construction projects, was named the business of the year. Launched in 2002 by Leticia Maspons Willis, the company achieved $2.6 million in revenue during 2003, according to the chamber.

United Parcel Service of America Inc., which employs 38,000 plus employees of Hispanic heritage, was also recognized as the corporation of the year for its long-term support of the Hispanic community including support for programs and executive leadership development in a variety of organizations including the U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute.

The chamber also honored Nuby Fowler of the U.S. Small Business Administration, Rocio del Milagro Woody of The Road to Recovery Inc., Al Trujillo of the Recall Corp., Jose Ignacio Gonzalez of Hemisphere Inc. and Anna R. Cablik of Anatek Inc.

Ms. Fowler, who is regional administrator of region IV of the U.S. Small Business Administration, was named the member of the year.

The businesswoman of the year award went to Ms. Woody, founder of The Road to Recovery, who started the first private psychological counseling practice serving the Latino population in Georgia.

Mr. Trujillo, president and CEO of Recall Corp., a global information management company with 3,500 people in 23 countries, was selected businessman of the year.

Mr. Gonzalez received the Chairman Award and the 20th Anniversary Special Award was presented to Ms. Cablik.
