Some 400 people representing local ethnic groups are scheduled to take part in the WSB-TV Fourth of July Parade to be held in Atlanta on Sunday and the city’s international relations committee is encouraging more groups to sign up.
Jim Maddox, chair of Atlanta’s Advisory Committee for International Relations (ACIR), told GlobalAtlanta last week that there has been a significant increase in participation by international organizations this year due to the organizing efforts of the committee.
The community groups already scheduled to participate represent Brazil, Colombia, India, South Korea, Taiwan and Trinidad and Tobago
Eric de Groot, chair of the ACIR’s parade committee, said that its float would carry a 20-foot high balloon representing the Statue of Liberty and that the participants would carry a balloon, nine feet in diameter, of the Earth.
He added that each group would be dressed in native attire and would perform traditional dances and music during the parade.
