SEVERAL INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES, INCLUDING SWISSAIR AND AIR JAMAICA, WILL SOON MAKE IT EASIER FOR TRAVELERS TO NAVIGATE THE STREETS OF ATLANTA, WITH THE HELP OF THE ATLANTA VISITOR’S GUIDE, A THREE-DIMENSIONAL MAP OF THE METRO-ATLANTA AREA BEING DEVELOPED BY LARRY PULLMAN.
SWISSAIR HAS ALREADY AGREED TO DISTRIBUTE ABOUT 40,000 COPIES OF THE GUIDE, AND AIR JAMAICA PLANS TO ADD THE MAP TO ITS SEAT PACKETS.
THE GUIDE IS IMPORTANT, SAID KEITH AITKEN, CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER FOR BRITISH AIRWAYS, BECAUSE “ATLANTA IS NOT A BIG INTERNATIONAL CITY,” AND FEW TRAVELERS ARE FAMILIAR WITH IT. BRITISH AIRWAYS IS ALSO CONSIDERING DISTRIBUTING THE GUIDE TO ITS PASSENGERS.
UNLIKE TRADITIONAL MAPS, THE ATLANTA VISITOR’S GUIDE DIVIDES THE CITY INTO REGIONS, SUCH AS BUCKHEAD, DOWNTOWN AND NORTHEAST ATLANTA. EACH SECTION WILL FEATURE PLACES OF INTEREST, BOTH FOR TOURISTS AND BUSINESS TRAVELERS AND WILL HAVE SPACE RESERVED FOR ADVERTISERS. IT WILL ALSO INCLUDE MAPS OF THE MARTA SYSTEM AND HARTSFIELD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.
MR. PULLMAN, WHO FORMERLY WORKED IN ADVERTISING FOR A BRITISH PUBLISHING COMPANY, SAID THAT HE GOT THE IDEA FOR THE MAP DURING HIS TRAVELS THROUGH EUROPE AND NORTH AMERICA. HE WAS NEVER SATISFIED WITH THE MAPS AVAILABLE IN AIRPORTS, AND DECIDED TO DEVELOP HIS OWN.
HE PLANS TO PRODUCE THE GUIDE TWICE A YEAR, AND IS CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR ADVERTISERS FOR THE FIRST EDITION, WHICH IS DUE TO COME OUT IN MID-FEBRUARY.
