AAF-McQuay Inc., a Louisville, Ky.-based member of the multinational conglomerate Hong Leong Group Malaysia, is opening a new 45,000 square-foot air filter manufacturing facility in Norcross and creating 50 new Georgia jobs.

Commonly known here as American Air Filter International, the company already has a 135,000 square-foot indoor air filter manufacturing facility in Doraville that employs 60 people.

The company’s U.S. division is credited with inventing indoor particulate air filters in 1921. Particulate filtration involves removing dust, pollen, pet dander and other minute particles from air.

“We are proud to bring more jobs to Georgia and expand operations in Atlanta further,” American Air Filter’s new vice president of new business development, Hoshi Daruwalla, told GlobalAtlanta.

The new facility is to incorporate high volume equipment specifically suited to cater to large volume orders from retailers, heating ventilation and air conditioning wholesalers and other large volume consumers of air filtration products. While most particulate air filter manufacturers produce filters by hand, American Air Filter uses proprietary automated equipment for greater efficiency, superior quality control and on-time delivery, Mr. Daruwalla added.

The company is investing heavily in research and development to create more environmentally friendly technologies, Mr. Daruwalla said.

“We are committed to R&D and new product development, ” said the company’s chief operating officer for the Americas region, Bruce Krueger. “We look forward to increasing our presence in the Atlanta community with our new facility in Norcross where we will be bringing the air filtration market improved and more innovative products. Look for more exciting things ahead from American Air Filter as we leverage our global expertise, quality and innovations,” he said.

American Air Filter has operated its Doraville plant for more than 20 years. The company has 18 international manufacturing locations and operates in more than 59 countries with hundreds of sales offices worldwide.
