Newell Rubbermaid Inc. has expanded its office in Shanghai to support increased growth in China, a major market for the Atlanta-based international consumer brands company.
The new office employs 200 people who are working to penetrate the world’s most populous country with a broad array of products.
“This investment is an example of how we are driving into action our recently announced Growth Game Plan strategy, which makes sharper choices for investing behind our key brands in faster-growing markets such as China,” David Doolittle, a spokesman, told Global Atlanta.
The company isn’t disclosing the details of the space, but it has capacity to expand beyond the current number of employees.
Newell Rubbermaid’s China sales in recent years have been led by Lenox steel saws and Parker Pens, for which the company has 450 mini-shops within department stores around China.
But China’s growing economy presents opportunity for virtually all its brands, from Rubbermaid health-care and Dymo industrial labeling products to additional writing brands like Sharpie, Expo and Papermate.
Its Shanghai offices are located at the Gubei International Fortune Center II development in the Gubei New District.
The company also has sales and procurement offices in Beijing and Shenzhen, as well as factory operations and innovation and technical centers for tools and writing instruments throughout the country.
