Novelis Inc., an Atlanta-based manufacturer of rolled aluminum products, plans to invest $18 million to add a recycling center at an aluminum rolling plant in Neuss, Germany.
The plant is run by Aluminum Norf GmbH, a joint venture between Novelis and Oslo-based Norsk Hydro ASA. The investment will help build a multi-chamber melting furnace that will recycle 50,000 metric tons of aluminum annually when it is completed at the end of 201.
Tadeu Nardocci, president of Novelis Europe and senior vice-president of Novelis, said the company invests in recycling to help the environment while ensuring access to a key raw material.
“Recycling is a key component of the Novelis sustainability strategy. Such investments deliver environmental benefits while providing an important source of metal for Novelis,” said Mr. Nardocci in a news release.
This recycling center is the second phase of expansion that started with the construction of a similar facility by Norsk Hydro in 2009.
