A seminar on new business opportunities in Peru is to be held Monday, Aug. 1, in conjunction with a visit of Peru’s vice president to celebrate Peruvian Independence Day and the ceremonial opening of the Peruvian Consulate General in Atlanta.

Peruvian Vice President David Waisman, who was officially invited to visit Georgia by Gov. Sonny Perdue, is scheduled to speak during the seminar, which is to be held 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the offices of McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP in the SunTrust Plaza downtown. Lunch will be held during the event at the World Trade Center Atlanta in the same building.

Themes for the luncheon seminar include doing business in Peru, investing in Peru and Georgia’s logistics competitiveness.

The event takes place shortly after negotiators from Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and the United States conclude the 11th round of negotiations for a U.S.-Andean free trade agreement. There will also be a gala on Saturday, July 30, at the Grand Hyatt in Buckhead. The gala will celebrate Peru’s independence day, which falls on July 28, and will be the ceremonial event for the announcement of a new Peruvian consulate in Atlanta.

Peru announced earlier this year that it would be opening a consulate here, but an official staff and location have still not been determined.

The business seminar is co-organized by Hemisphere Inc., McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP, the Georgia Department of Economic Development and the Embassy of Peru.
