Moscow’s State Capella (Choir) of Russia is to perform at the Cathedral of St. Philip in Buckhead on Friday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m.

The choir, which was formed in 1991, is composed of 45 adult singers evenly divided between men and women.

The program is to consist of Russian and Western choral classics that have drawn extremely enthusiastic reviews following performances throughout Europe, Asia and North America.

“Through the Russian and Western choral classics program the audience will experience a journey through culture of many periods,” Leonid Fleishaker, executive producer of World Touring Entertainment, told GlobalAtlanta. New York-based World Touring Entertainment is collaborating with the local organization Friends of Cathedral Music to bring the performance to Atlanta.

World Touring Entertainment also is arranging performances for the choir’s three-week, North American tour in 12 cities.

To be included in the repetoire are: the choral concerto of the 18th century Ukrainian composer Dimitri Bortniansky, songs by the 19th century Russian composer Sergei Taneyev, a choral concerto by 20th century Russian composer Alfred Schnittke and a Slavic hymn by the modern Ukrainian composer Valeri Kikta.

The second half of the program is to include Western classics by 19th century composers Anton Bruckner of Austria and Johannes Brahms of Germany as well as the 20th century Spanish composer Manuel de Falla.

The program is to conclude with a medley of popular Russian folk songs.
