The Cathedral of St. Philip in Buckhead is teaming up with the British and German consulates and the German Cultural Center to present a concert of sacred works by J.S. Bach and G.F. Handel on Saturday, Feb 23, at 7:30 p.m.
The concert is to be the first collaboration between the cathedral’s choir and schola – its 30-voice adult chamber choir – and the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra.
They are to perform two masterworks by Handel: “Dixit Dominus” and the grand finale from the “Messiah,” and Bach’s “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.”
The Atlanta Baroque Orchestra’s players use instruments that were either made during the late 17th and 18th centuries or are modern models of historic instruments.
The Friends of Cathedral Music, the British and German consulates general in Atlanta and the German Cultural Center (Goethe Zentrum) are sponsoring the concert.
Tickets are available by calling 404-237-7582 or by going online here.
