Members of the Atlanta chapter of the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce got a sneak preview this weekend of the IKEA store that is scheduled to open near Atlantic Station on Wednesday, June 29, at 9 a.m.

“The Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce has a strong relationship with IKEA across the United States. We are very proud and excited to welcome IKEA to Atlanta,” Mee Linden, chair of the Atlanta chapter, told GlobalAtlanta last week.

The chamber members received a tour of the 366,000 square-foot facility because of the close relationship between the store and the chamber.

“IKEA will be a great addition to our chamber network and our 200 members, and will create great job opportunities for the people in Atlanta,” Ms. Linden added. “IKEA is a great example of Swedish entrepreneurship and design, and will be an excellent expansion of the Swedish community. We believe that IKEA is one of our best ambassadors worldwide.”

The home furnishing retailer was founded in 1943 and currently has more than 210 stores in 33 countries. IKEA Atlanta will be its 23rd store in the U.S. and the only one in the Southeast.

It is to offer 10,000 exclusively designed home furnishing and accessory items ranging from beds, mattresses, bookcases, desks and sofas to pots, pans, lighting, textiles, pet products, as well as kitchens complete with cabinetry and appliances.
