Diplomats will watch the Steeplechase from an international tent hosted by TAG.

The Technology Association of Georgia is helping introduce the city’s diplomatic corps to one of Atlanta’s longstanding traditions: the Atlanta Steeplechase horse races to be held in Rome, Ga., this weekend.

TAG will operate an international tent as part of its presence at the event, which will host about 20 diplomats from four continents and their spouses and families. It’s part of the organization’s ongoing outreach to the city’s diverse communities through its International Business Society.

Gandy Thomas, consul general of Haiti and dean of the Atlanta Consular Corps; Tino Mantella, CEO of TAG; and Global Atlanta Publisher Phil Bolton will be on hand at the event. In addition to watching horses clear hurdles and hurtle toward the finish line, the event at Kingston Downs near Rome, Ga.,boasts family-friendly activities including a foxhound parade, terrier races and a hat contest for ladies.

Tickets include lunch, fine wine and craft beer catered by il Giallo Osteria & Bar, an Italian restaurant located in Sandy Springs. TAG says men should wear spring wear and “their most interesting tie,” while ladies are encouraged to don their best hat.

The broader Steeplechase gates open at 10 a.m., and the TAG tent opens at noon.
