Toyo Tire North America, subsidiary of Japan-based Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd., is to implement $50 million in capital improvements to its facility in Bartow County near Cartersville.

The plant produces some 2 million tires each year for passenger cars and light trucks. The expansion is expected to increase output to 3.3 million units per year by 2009.

The facility, Toyo’s first consumer tire production plant in the United States, began commercial production in March 2006.

With the expansion, Toyo is expected to add more than 100 jobs to its 370 existing jobs. It plans to increase employment to as much as 900, based on market demand.
