Two exporters from just south of Atlanta have been honored by the president of the United States with an award acknowledging their excellence in international sales.

Poriferous LLC, a surgical implant producer in Newnan, and Aventure Aviation, a Peachtree City-based provider of airplane parts, gave Georgia a disproportionately strong showing in the awards yet again in the 60th year since the President’s E Awards for Exports began under John F. Kennedy. Of the 16 awards for goods producers doled out by U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, two hailed from the state.

Georgia was also finally able to take delivery of an unprecedented honor given to the state last year during the pandemic, when the Georgia Department of Economic Development became the first organization in the six-decade history of the program to win a fourth E Award for Export Service, a designation offered to those that help companies boost their global sales. It came during a year when Georgia broke into the top-10 list for exporting states for the first time.

Deputy Commissioner for International Trade Mary Waters traveled to Washington to receive the award during a ceremony with U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves.

“Trade development is a significant factor in strong economic development and a thriving economy, and this award is a testament to the effectiveness of Georgia’s International Trade team,” Ms. Waters said in a statement.

Aided by offices in 12 International markets, the department provides trade services like market research, trade show participation and business-partner qualification to Georgia-based companies free of charge, helping their products and services compete globally.
