Atlanta’s United Parcel Service Inc. announced Aug. 22 that Jim Barber has been promoted to president of the company’s Brussels-based European regional operations.
Mr. Barber, who previously served as UPS’s chief operations officer for Europe, replaces the retiring Wolfgang Flick.
Mr. Flick has been with UPS since the company expanded to Europe in 1976, serving as regional president since 2004.
Mr. Barber began working for UPS in 1985 as a Georgia truck driver. By 2006 he had worked his way up to president of the company’s London-based U.K. and Ireland district, and last year was appointed COO for Europe.
The European region, which also encompasses UPS’s operations in the Middle East and Africa, accounts for nearly half of the company’s international revenue, according to a news release.
