In the below sponsored interview, we caught up with founder and managing partner Guillermo Wasserman to talk about the firm and its role in linking Georgia and other Southern states to Latin America.

Global Atlanta: Tell us a little bit more about your company/organization and its role in Atlanta’s global landscape.

Wasserman West is a boutique business law firm headquartered in Atlanta that specializes in international transactions, commercial matters, and day-to-day operations in a wide range of industries domestically and in Latin America. While we are based in Atlanta, we view ourselves as a strategic resource for the entire Southeastern United States, serving as a legal bridge between this region and the global market.

Guillermo Wasserman

Our core practice is defined by two primary tracks: we represent domestic clients in navigating transactional and operational legal matters in Latin America, as well as Latin American clients who seek to invest or operate in the U.S. What sets us apart is our team’s multicultural background, our expertise in the region, and our native fluency in Spanish and Portuguese, which allows us to communicate and negotiate effectively with local business and legal teams in their own language.

Our diverse team includes attorneys who hold law degrees and are admitted to practice in both U.S. and Latin American jurisdictions, and who have gained significant on-the-ground experience in Latin America before relocating to the U.S.

We are actively involved in the international legal community in Atlanta. Our principals have served as chairpersons or board members for the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Argentine American Chamber of Commerce Southeast, the Brazilian American Chamber of Commerce Southeast, the International Law Section of the Georgia Bar, and the International Partners Committee of the Metro Atlanta Chamber.

2. Why is it important for you to foster more discussion around the country/region/topic that you are sponsoring?

There is a significant strategic opportunity as Latin America enters a multi-year growth cycle, particularly Argentina and Brazil, where increased transaction volume is expected across several industries such as energy, technology, agribusiness, and mining.

As U.S. businesses increasingly look toward opportunities within Latin America, it is important to discuss the background and skill set needed to support the nuanced business and legal landscape of the region. Differences in legal systems and business cultures often limit a company’s ability to successfully conduct business in the region. We aim to deliver commercial certainty to Latin American transactions and operations. We believe that fostering this understanding is critical for regional leaders to mitigate the risks and gaps in legal systems and business culture that frequently limit international success.

What are your upcoming plans for growth, or what are some upcoming initiatives? What specialized services/expertise do you offer? What sets you apart?

Wasserman West is scaling its team and resources to capitalize on the rising transaction volume we see in the technology, infrastructure, energy, and mining sectors in Latin America, particularly in Argentina and Brazil.

Our expertise encompasses a wide range of legal services, including cross-border mergers and acquisitions, commercial transactions, market entry, implementation of regional contractual strategies, regulatory compliance, and international litigation and dispute resolution. We collaborate with our clients’ legal and commercial teams to bring transactions, contract negotiations, and operations to the level of commercial certainty and transparency expected in a U.S. domestic transaction, while addressing cross-border issues.

As practitioners trained and experienced in both the U.S. and Latin America, we are able to mitigate and more effectively manage legal risks. We are also well positioned to anticipate the extraterritorial application of U.S. law, including FCPA compliance and export controls, and provide our clients the ability to better oversee and control their foreign operations.

As U.S. businesses increasingly look toward opportunities within Latin America, it is important to discuss the background and skill set needed to support the nuanced business and legal landscape of the region.

Why did you choose to sponsor a channel through Global Atlanta?

We chose to sponsor a channel through Global Atlanta as a strategic commitment to our mission of consolidating a premier Latin American and international practice that serves Atlanta and the broader Southeast.

Global Atlanta is the preeminent platform for the audience we serve, specifically executives, educators, diplomats, and international companies who look to Atlanta and the Southeast as the hub for their global business operations.

In a marketplace where legal services are increasingly perceived as a commodity or influenced by automation, we believe that relationship-driven value remains the ultimate competitive differentiator. This partnership allows us to align our firm with an organization that values trust-based personal connections and diverse cultural backgrounds.

How can Global Atlanta best aid your outreach?

Global Atlanta can best assist us by leveraging its wide network and goodwill with the business, diplomatic, and educational communities to amplify our role as a catalyst between U.S. and Latin American markets.

We look to the platform to facilitate high-level introductions and serve as a venue for our principals, widely recognized as leading international practitioners, to share insights on market trends and cross-border strategies that highlight our ability to bridge business and legal cultures.

Ultimately, we view this collaboration as a way to strengthen the region’s global connectivity, ensuring that when Atlanta and other Southeast businesses look to expand or consolidate in Latin America, they have the strategic legal partner to allow them to achieve their goals.
